A Markham teenager has been charged after driving 87 km/h over the speed limit. On April 19 around 10:30 a.m., a York Regional Police officer was giving an educational presentation on speed enforcement to a group of students outside St. Augustine Catholic High School. It was then the officer saw a vehicle zoom by the school on Rodick Road. The officer clocked the driver?s speed with his radar at 127 km/h. The posted speed limit of Rodick near Calvert Road is 40 km/h because of the nearby school and residential areas. Though the officer was unable to stop the vehicle, an officer conducting patrol up the road did so and investigated.
The 17-year-old male driver only had a G2 driver’s license. He was charged with stunt driving and speeding, the vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspended.
York Regional Police says excessive speed is a major contributing factor to many serious and fatal collisions on local roads.
